One of the best ways to be inspired to make yourself and your business the best they can be is to learn from the success of others. That’s why we love to spotlight our members here at the blog. Today, you’ll meet Adora Winquist, founder of ADORATherapy and Opus Gaia in Madison, New Jersey. Meet Adora, her colorful brand and some of her products. The colors on the labels alone will make your drool!
Adora has been a member of the Indie Business Network since November 2010. I asked her to share a bit about her life and her line of products. Here's a little of what she said:
Q1 TELL US ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS
I am passionate about formulating aromatic products that create the opportunity for an individual to experience their highest potential. I believe there is a potent transformational opportunity between aroma/smell and feeling/experience, and that the bridge created between allows for each person to truly express their unique beauty, wisdom and innate gifts.
In the past 15 years, my business has gone through many transformations. We have just completed a total re-branding and coupled it with a launch of a crowdfunded campaign via Indiegogo. It is interesting to me that, to date, few natural product/beauty companies have chosen this route to fund expansion. Check out our Indiegogo campaign video:

Q2 WHAT ARE YOUR BEST SELLING PRODUCTS?
Good Mood Boost has been our best seller for the past 15 years. It is a big hit at Whole Foods Market in the NE region where we sell to about 24 stores. It was also featured in HAPPI Magazine, and named best seller 2012 by Beauty Store Business Magazine. The back story on it is a bit interesting. I used to work for front line customer service in cable tv and when folks would have problems with the TV not working, it was a REAL issue and let's just say it was an highly charged environment. Even after an unhappy customer left, there was a heaviness, a discordance left behind and we could not burn sage or candles. So I created a formula with organic sage, peppermint, grapefruit and lavender and we would use that in the office to return to a positive frame of mind. The rest, as they say, is history.
We are thrilled about the launch of our Gal on the Go Mood Boost line, in these mood boosting sprays: Seductive, Beautiful, Smart, Balanced, Inspired, Awake and Peaceful. Packaged in a chic matchbox with a fabric pull, an ‘Adore Yourself’ affirmation, and feminine illustrations of fashionable gals. The response has been exactly what we were looking for.
Q3 WHAT SORTS OF THINGS DO YOU LIKE TO DO WHEN YOU'RE NOT WORKING?
I was just thinking that one thing I never experience as an entrepreneur is wishing the work day away. It is instead a perpetual race against the clock that never seems to strike “end of the day.” In those rare moments of not working, my favorite way to spend time is with my 4 year old daughter Lilly, she is the most amazing creation I have had the privilege of taking part in. I also love to cook, because to me it is so similar to formulating a new blend. It is simply constructing a flavor profile vs. an aromatic one.
Q4 WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT BEING A MEMBER OF THE INDIE BUSINESS NETWORK?
I first attended an lecture that Donna Maria gave in 2000 at an aromatherapy conference in Seattle. I remember how impressed I was listening to her speak and thinking, “Wow, there is SO much I don't know about running an aromatherapy business!” I knew at that moment she was a invaluable resource. Now, Indie Business Network has grown in so many facets, and is the “go to” resource for liability insurance as well as connections, information and support for the growing entrepreneur who defines the road map of business step by step and moment by moment.
