One of the best ways to be inspired to make yourself and your business the best they can be is to learn from the success of others. That’s why we love to spotlight our members here at the blog. Today, you’ll meet the lovely Roberta Perry, founder of Scrubz Body Scrub, Inc. in Bethpage, New York.
Roberta has been a member of the Indie Business Network since October 2008. I asked her to share a bit about her life and the Scrubz Body line. Here's a little of what she said:
Q1 TELL US ABOUT SCRUBZ BODY SCRUB
I was frustrated with other body scrub products on the market, feeling like “Goldilocks,” in that the products were too greasy or not gritty enough, etc., so I decided to make my own. I originally had no intention of making it a business, but after sharing some of my creations with my sister, Michelle, and some friends, I knew I had something special and decided to launch Scrubz Body Scrub, Inc. in July 2006.
We handmake everything in small batches in a small shop/manufacturing place in Bethpage. We have expanded our line to include items such as Oilz+, a shea butter/botanical oil lotion, Bye Bye Bag, an under eye cream with pure Shea and Emu Oil, Shavez shaving scrub, and Lipz Service™ a lip scrub and lip balm, in one, just to name a few.
We have a treatment room for professional massage and reflexology. We also host “Make your own Scrubz” parties. They are all inclusive and include: personal spa-like hand scrubs for all the guests, invitations, food, balloons, t-shirt for the party girl, and of course the activity of making a 16 oz. decorated and custom scented jar of Scrubz, a $26 value, as the party favor.
Q2 WHAT ARE YOUR BEST SELLING PRODUCTS?
Definitely our Scrubz, with Sweet Milk and Honey and Lavender as the scent leaders. Our next best is a tie between Oilz+ and Bye Bye Bagz.
Q3 WHAT SORTS OF THINGS DO YOU LIKE TO DO WHEN YOU'RE NOT WORKING?
Inline skating, hiking, travel, reading and photography. The best is when I go to a cool place, skate and take pictures at the same time. It’s my personal nirvana! 🙂
Q4 WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT BEING A MEMBER OF THE INDIE BUSINESS NETWORK?
The best thing about being an Indie Business Network member is the sorority-like feel I experience amongst the membership. I love that we all help each other. I love having other resources to turn to. I love having a place to rant and rally.
I love the ladies in the Long Island #IndieMeetup Group. When we meet, it’s all about brainstorming and learning and laughter. Being a part of the Indie Business Network has absolutely enhanced my business experience — not only professionally, but personally as well.
