Our member Karrie Welch at Fortunate Face shared this video in our Secret Facebook Group this week, and it is producing a fun discussion about the importance of trademarks. Have a look at this video from Pandora's Makeup.
In addition to sharing their opinion that they are the subject of “corporate bullying,” (I'm not sure I agree), this is a clever way for Pandora's Makeup to use social media to develop a groundswell of grass roots support for their legal efforts. They may be losing on the merits in this particular case, but if they can turn public opinion against the larger company, they may be able to gain some leverage in a trademark negotiation process. I have no personal insider information about the status of the case. I just think it's important to point out that trademark registration matters … and so does social media.
I plan to follow this litigation as closely as my schedule permits. I know I'll learn a lot, and I'll share with you from time to time as I discover new updates.
