Cannabis/CBD/Hemp Infused Products Insurance

What types of products are covered?

This program covers soap and cosmetics products, whether you make them yourself or not, and whether or not those products contain Hemp CBD. Products eligible for coverage include: lotion, soap, bath salts, perfume, essential oils, perfumes, fragrance oils, base oils, waxes, powders, masks and scrubs. What types of products are NOT covered?

The program does NOT cover the following types of products: acetone-based products, aerosol products, alcoholic products, any product containing talc, any product requiring a prescription, digestible products of any kind, drugs or medicines, formaldehyde or products containing formaldehyde, furniture, household cleaning products that are not made with organic and/or natural ingredients, ingestible hemp products, invasive body inks, invasive products intended to remain within the body, nutraceuticals, permanent cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, plug-in electrical products, suppositories, tanning beds or tanning equipment, toys (except when sold in conjunction with an eligible beauty product), and vitamins and supplements.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is a naturally occurring derivative of hemp, a form of cannabis with lower tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) levels than marijuana.

How do I know if my company qualifies for topical hemp CBD product liability Insurance coverage?

If you sell handmade, non-handmade, full-spectrum topical hemp CBD products such as lotion, soap, bath salts, bath bombs, masks and scrubs, you quality for product liability insurance coverage through our program.

What types of products are covered by the topical hemp CBD product liability insurance?

The program covers all handmade, full spectrum, topical CBD products. Examples of topical CBD products include: handmade lotion, skincare, soap, bath salts, bath bombs, masks and scrubs in addition to all non-CBD products included in the regular program.  Items that are not covered include products such as these: drugs, nutritional supplements, products requiring a prescription, cosmetics designed for internal use, coffee, tea, children’s toys and meat products. What types of products are NOT covered by the topical hemp CBD product liability insurance?

The program does NOT cover the following types of CBD and hemp products:

Ingestible, sublingual or suppository CBD products
Ingestible, sublingual or suppository hemp products
Any hemp products with more then .3% THC content

The program also does NOT cover the following types of products: acetone-based products, aerosol products, alcoholic products, any product containing talc, any product requiring a prescription, digestible products of any kind, drugs or medicines, formaldehyde or products containing formaldehyde, furniture, household cleaning products not made with 100% organic or natural ingredients, invasive body inks, invasive products intended to remain within the body, nutraceuticals, permanent cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, plug-in electrical products, suppositories, tanning beds or tanning equipment, toys (except when sold in conjunction with an eligible beauty product), and vitamins and supplements.

What does the topical hemp CBD product liability Insurance program cover?

The policy is Commercial General and Product Liability policy. The base limits are:

$2,000,000 General Aggregate Limit

$2,000,000 Products-Completed Operations Aggregate Limit

$1,000,000 Personal and Advertising Injury Limit

$1,000,000 Each Occurrence Limit (higher limits available up to $10MM)

$300,000 Damage to Rented Premises Limit

$5,000 Medical Expense Limit

Business Personal Property coverage covers “miscellaneous property of a floating nature.” This means it covers the type of property you use in your business that is “tangible property you own or is in your care, custody or control.” Example of this type of property are inventory, packaging, and equipment you use in the course of conducting your business. The limits are:

Is the topical hemp CBD product liability program in addition to my handmade product liability coverage or is it all inclusive?

The topical CBD product liability program is all-inclusive. The program is designed to cover all topical CBD products and all non-CBD products.

What if I already have the handmade product liability insurance program coverage?

The topical CBD product liability insurance program replaces the handmade product liability insurance program for people who need topical CBD coverage.

Payments made for the handmade product liability insurance is non-refundable.

When does the insurance coverage expire?

If you have the product liability insurance member benefit, the policy will expire a year from the day you purchase your policy. While Indie Business Network membership and insurance are purchased separately, we encourage you to purchase both on the same date so you do not have to track two renewal dates.

Is the insurance premium refundable?

No. In exceptional circumstances, a partial refund may be available. Please call 844-520-6993 and ask to speak to a representative who can help with CBD coverage.. IMPORTANT: This is new coverage with high demand, please give Larry time to return your call or email. 

If I sell my business, is the policy transferable to the new owner?

No. The new owner would have to procure their own coverage.

Does obtaining this insurance change my Indie Business Network membership dues, or any of my other Indie Business Network member benefits?

No, it simply adds to your benefits.

Is there minimum annual revenue requirement with this insurance?

Is there a maximum annual revenue cap with this insurance?

No, but if this program is significantly insufficient for your commercial manufacturing and/or retail establishment, your premium may be higher.

How do I purchase topical CBD product liability insurance through this program?

Simply join Indie Business Network as a full member. After your membership dues are processed, you will receive a link to the page to secure your insurance. The topical CBD product liability insurance program is an application process, submit the application and the broker will be in touch promptly to complete the process.

Can I pay for my insurance in installments?

Yes, payment plans are available upon request.

When will my insurance become effective?

Immediately upon receipt of payment. You will receive your insurance certificate within 24 business hours.

How will I receive my certificate of insurance?

It will be emailed to you within 24 business hours after you purchase the policy.

What if I want to include Additional Insureds?

You can contact your servicing agent and they will get the name and address from you and create your Certificate of Insurance for you. There is no additional charge for this service!

Do I qualify for the insurance if my business is located in a country other than the United States?

Your business must be physically located in one of the 50 United States (excluding US Territories) or the District of Columbia in order to qualify for the topical hemp CBD insurance program. However, the policy includes coverage for short term business activities which may occur in Canada and Puerto Rico (such as traveling to a business event) and for your products when shipped to Canada and Puerto Rico. *This is a very basic summary of coverage and not intended to imply actual coverage details.
