I think the new bill proposed is much better than the previous one – no fees, adverse reaction reporting requirements fixed – and while I would like to see a small business exemption, this is a better version than was on the table in 2008.

I really like these proposals, because like the CPSIA, they want to throw around weight and bring more safety to the general public from the large manufacturers, but us as small businesses who practice a safe workplace and safe products are affected as well. I also agree on the scenario you put in there as well. I want to know exactly what determines the size of a small business, and what is the cutoff number of products produced and sold would be to enforce standards like this. Or maybe how much the company makes? The government wants to take over my life with my business, but California cant even pay for my state tax refund.

I am happy to see that the registration fee has been removed. I am concerned about how much paper work this act will entail. My business is small, less than $10,000, a year. I work out of my home and sell at local craft fairs and other fairs. I also am concerned that down the line we may be told that we can’t manufacture in our homes and also what cosmetics we can make. I feel that small home based businesses that make less than $20,000 a year should be exempt from this. I practice safe manufacturing in my home under very clean conditions. I sell to neighbors and friends and would never sell something that I have not use myself. All products that I sell I test on myself for at least six months before offering them to my customers. I just feel that this part of the FDA act is in some ways trying to put small companies like mine out of business. I have been wroking on getting a web site so my business can grow but am now discouraged and may not continue with it. I also may close my business if the rules are too much to handles after the bill is passed. Small businesses are the back bone of this country and I don’t really feel that this part of the bill is being fair to us.
