For those who have not yet heard, the Indie Business Studio will open this summer outside Charlotte, North Carolina. In addition to learning how to make your own soaps, cosmetics, candles, herbal remedies and aromatherapy products, you'll enjoy classes on how to manage a profitable artisan handmade business. The space will also serve as the new headquarters for the Indie Business Network. But before we open, we must turn the space formerly known as Kelly's Salon and Nell Beam Barbee into a warm and colorful place where you can network, grow, have fun, and learn to make more money in your business. In this video, I give you a personal walk through of what the space looked like on the day we signed the lease a while back. Have a look with me!
We were granted renovation permits, and renovations have begun. We've torn down a few walls, ripped up 5 layers of carpet (ick) and are overhauling the electrical outlets so the classroom has plenty of plugs for your laptops, blenders and mixers. Once we're done, we'll have to obtain approval from the the fire marshall and, since the building is an historical structure, the local historic preservation committee. After that, we'll procure a city business license and some other miscellaneous and very fun permits. It's so new and exciting for us, and we'll continue to share our progress as we move forward.
Can you help me decorate?
The one thing I don't know is what color to paint the walls. I figured they'd be off-white, but many people are telling me that anything white-ish will not be warm and welcoming. I'm told I need color, but what color? Certainly not lemon-green! Blue? Almond? Orange? I have no idea what to do. I guess I'll turn to Pinterest, but before I do that, I want your opinion.
Question: What color do you think would be conducive to learning while also being bright and cheerful without being loud and overwhelming or distracting? I'd love to know your thoughts!
