As you know, I am in the process of re-launching Indie Business Magazine. I continue to read every single idea for features and stories you share. I am so excited, I could just burst! But like all great things, we have to take one step at a time, and a magazine cover is a Very. Big. Step. I would therefore like to invite photographers (amateur and otherwise) to throw your hat in the ring for the cover photograph for the re-launch issue.
If there is one thing I’ve learned from serving Indie Business owners, it's that you are a super-talented bunch of people. By looking at some of the photographs at your blogs, on FaceBook, at my social networking site, it's hard to tell that many of you are not professionally trained photographers! This 14-day competition starts today and ends on June 7. Let's get started! Here are the rules. Sorry to be so blunt, but I have to be clear in order to make this easy and avoid any misunderstandings. Please don't submit a photograph if you do not agree to each of these terms.
- I have not yet finalized my thoughts on a theme for the magazine so you can submit whatever you'd like so long as it is related to your business and/or your life as an Indie. You can submit products photos so long as you took the photograph yourself. If your photograph is chosen for the cover, you will not receive any monetary compensation.
- Since that last issue of the magazine featured a soap grouping, the cover of the next issue will not contain any soap. You may submit soap photos or photos containing soap, but they will be considered for inside the magazine only, and not for the cover.
- The photograph can be of you, your products, you and your products, or anything you think depicts or in any way celebrates the Indie Business lifestyle of independence, creativity, self-sufficiency, sustainability, profitability and fun. You may submit as many photographs as you'd like.
- The photograph must have been taken by you personally. In order to respect copyright, I will not accept photos of you and/or your products that were taken by third parties. If you photograph is chosen, you will be required to sign a release indicating that you are the copyright owner.
- Only one cover photograph will be chosen, but other entries may find their way to pages inside the publication.
- If your photo is used, either on the cover or in another part of the publication, you will receive one free hard copy, and as much fanfare as I can muster — because I will tell everyone I know about you and your photograph.
- Your submission must be an original photograph that does not appear anyplace else in print or on the Web, and you agree not to use it for at least six months after publication of the magazine, other than displaying it as a part of the the actual magazine cover.
- If your photograph is used, you agree to waive any claims that you may have against Donna Maria Coles Johnson, Darryl B. Johnson, Indie Business Media, their licensees and assigns with regard to the photograph you submit for the re-launch issue of Indie Business Magazine, including any claims of invasion of privacy, violation or right of publicity, libel or copyright infringement.
That's it! So, do you want to enter a photograph? Enter as many as you'd like!
Here's how to enter!
Email me your high resolution (300dpi) to indiebusiness [at] gmail [dot] com by midnight EST on June 7, 2010, as time-stamped by my computer. Include your name, the name of your business, and cut and paste the above rules into the message, and state at the bottom that you agree to them. I will quickly acknowledge receipt of your photograph. (If your submission is received after the deadline, it will not be considered. It will be deleted and you will not be notified.)
After I receive your photograph, I will select a photograph for the cover (and I may select photographs for inside the publication as well), and advise you by email if your entry was selected for the magazine. I will then upload all of the entries to the Photo Gallery of my social networking site so everyone can see the fantastic entries. And, you know me, I'll blog them, FaceBook them, etc.
If your photograph is chosen, I will want your John Hancock on something releasing rights to the photograph to me, so I'll follow up with that afterward. (Please do not send an entry if you are not willing to sign a release of all rights to the photograph.)
If you have any questions, post them below. Thanks everyone!
