Tomorrow morning, along with some of Charlotte's leading journalists, I will be a panelist on the discussion entitled Mainstream Media and Social Media: A Collision or an Opportunity? at The Charlotte Observer in uptown Charlotte.
Of course you already know that I see it as an opportunity (isn't everything?), but I can't wait to share why I feel that way and to discuss other points of view with professional journalists. The other panel members, some of whom are pictured above, left to right, are::
Brad Panovich, WCNC, chief meteorologist
Nathan Richie, NR Creative, radio host and Social Media Charlotte past-president
Jennifer Rothacker, The Charlotte Observer, Editor for Innovations (not pictured)
Tara Servatius, WBT, talk show host
The panel discussion will be moderated by Jenifer Daniels (far right). As you may know, I earned a BA in Journalism/PR from the University of South Carolina's School of Journalism and Mass Communications, so it's a special treat to be surrounded by journalists and tour the newsroom.
A welcome address will be delivered by Observer publisher Ann Caulkin (can't wait to meet her!), and the event will conclude with a tour of the Charlotte Observer newsroom. (Be still my beating heart!!) Look at the long list of Charlotte influencers who are registered to attend!
We start at 7:30 with a meet and greet, and the panel discussion begins at 8:00. There are still a few tickets left, and you can grab one up here. There are sometimes tickets at the door, but they tend to go fast.
I am honored that Social Media Charlotte President Scott Hepburn invited me to participate, and I hope to see you there! If you can't make it, you can follow some of the action using the #smclt hash tag. Also, don't forget to subscribe to my blog so you don't miss the photos and summary I'll post.
Question: What do you think: Collision or Opportunity? What questions would you ask if you were in attendance?
