For the past few years, I have hosted Indie Business Book Club, a fun and convenient way for our members to grow together in business and in life. Our May pick was The Athena Doctrine by John Gerzema and Michael D’Antonio, which examined how traits that many believe are inherently “feminine” are used by men and women in countries around the world to improve the lives of their citizens. Now, we're moving back to more traditional business principles, as we cover the important topic of personal branding for success. I cannot wait to dive in with you!
About “You Are a Brand”
The book includes chapters on crafting your own “elevator speech” and leveraging the power of social media — two very important areas that require continued fine tuning as your business grows. The book also includes strategies to help you tap into the power of words, learn principles of visual identity, think in terms of markets, and execute a self-brand action plan that is unique and memorable — just like your products!
About Catherine Kaputa
Catherine Kaputa first learned brand strategy from marketing gurus Al Ries and Jack Trout at Trout & Ries Advertising. For over ten years Catherine was Director of Advertising and Community Affairs at Citi Smith Barney and Shearson Lehman Brothers in charge of global branding and advertising for corporate wealth management and investment banking. Catherine has also taught graduate level courses on branding at New York University's Stern School of Business.
In 2008, I was featured in Peter Montoya's book, The Brand Called You. I knew then that branding myself was important. Today, it's not just important — it's essential — especially for creative and handmade entrepreneurs who rely so much on their personal stories and creativity to establish themselves in a crowded and noisy market place.
This book will help you do that. Not only will we learn together, but we'll also share our feedback together so we can help each other sharpen and strengthen our brands.
I am excited to explore this topic!
