We are excited to introduce you to Elle N. of Rose Nicaud Perfume, our 4Q 2023 Robin's Roses Entrepreneur Scholarship Recipient! Based in New Orleans, Elle N. creates small batch, hand crafted, artisan perfumes with fine aromatics to bring you the comforts of the Crescent City in the form of elegant handcrafted fragrances.
About Elle N.
Elle N. is the mother of four and a self-employed consultant who provides administrative support to organizations and artists in her local New Orleans community. Her perfume brand is inspired by Rose Nicaud, who had been held as a slave and was able to purchase her freedom by the age of twenty-eight by selling small batch coffee on the streets of New Orleans.
Says Elle N., like a small batch coffee maker, an independent perfumer finds joy and quiet serenity in combining small things to create an end product that is greater than the sum of its parts, and which delivers a joyful and memorable sensory experience to the person who uses it.
Q: What does winning IBN's Robin's Roses Entrepreneur Scholarship mean to you?
Elle N. says:
I resonate deeply with the spirit and vision of the Indie Business Network. As a young girl, I saw my mother work traditional jobs while also selling Avon, Mary Kay and Tupperware. I watched my immigrant father try and fail at entrepreneurship several times before succeeding. The transformative power of entrepreneurship is therefore very real to me.
As a self-employed person, I have the freedom and flexibility to determine my own schedule and homeschool my children. I have witnessed the confidence business ownership has given to countless women in my life, regardless of the income their business generates. In rough times, a woman's business is a space of comfort, self-esteem and community.
I hope to encourage other women not only to try entrepreneurship, but to become skilled at it. The Indie Business Network seems like a great place for me to do this very thing.
I found IBN through one of its longtime members, Terry Carter of Travertine Spa, during my search for product liability and business insurance. I knew about other places offering insurance coverage, but after looking deeply at IBN's offerings, as well as the vision and mission of its founder, Donna Maria, I feel this is the best place for me to evolve as an entrepreneur.
