Give Them More to Love: A Book of Your Own
In April 2000, Rosanne Tartaro of SunRose Aromatics joined the Indie Beauty Network. I had just launched the organization a few months before, so Rosanne's joining was like a vote of confidence that helped confirm that I was on the right track with the benefits I offered to small business owners.
Since then, "Roe" and I have become so much more than business colleagues. We are friends. So it gives me great pleasure to let you know of the publication of her book, "Chakra Balancing: A Beginner's Guide." I caught up with Roe in her aromatherapy studio in Bronx, New York to get the scoop on chakras and her best tips on self-publishing.
.cdM: What is a chakra?
Roe: Chakras are the 7 centers of spiritual energy in the human body, which we want to keep in balance because when they are not, adversely affects can result. Essential oils can be used to help balance the chakras.
dM: How did the opportunity for this book arise?
Roe: I have been selling essential oils and aromatherapy accessories for years, so I had amassed a huge amount of information on the topic of chakras. Much of it was already up at my website. Putting the information into book form was a nice accompaniment to what I already offered through products and aromatherapy classes in my studio.
dM: The book is self published?
Roe: Yes, with the help of many wonderful women I've known through the years. For example, a friend at the International Journal of Aromatherapy helped with formatting and cover design. Everything fell into place beautifully.
dM: The cover design is lovely indeed. Why did you choose self-publishing?
Roe: I'm not sure if I chose it. It chose me. It seemed logical for me. I have a friend who authored a book that was published by a well known publisher. Her advance was $1,000 and she gets no royalties. Since I have a website and a blog, and many loyal customers and readers who are interested in what I offer, I will make far money by publishing on my own.
The book is available for purchase separately or as part of my Chakra Balancing Kit, which includes my own 7 custom chakra balancing blends. It makes a great gift for yourself or someone else, alone or as a set.
dM: Can other Indies benefit from publishing a book that complements an existing income stream?
Roe: Absolutely! It's content you have probably already written if you have a website, blog and/or newsletter. Just formated in a convenient way.
Any nicely packaged, relevant information you can give your customers about the products you sell will increase sales of those products naturally. You can do it yourself. Your book is probably already written!
What do you think?
I love Roe' story, and her insightful recognition that every business owner can (and should!) write at least one book. I did, and doing so has helped my business tremendously. What do you love about Roe? Have you self-published your book? Tell us about it, and pay it forward by leaving a tip behind to help others.
