Indie Cruise 2020: Aruba: 20 Years of Maker Journeys

We are excited to announce the theme and the destination for Indie Cruise 2020. For those who don't know, Indie Cruise is IBN's signature retreat designed specifically for Makers and Handmade Entrepreneurs. If you already know you want to join us, you can register for Indie Cruise 2020 now by clicking here. If you have any questions before registering, call Suzanne Niemeier at 800-326-4971.

Indie Cruise, hosted since 2011, is a boutique mentoring retreat that takes place at a luxury resort on a beautiful Caribbean island. It's designed for Makers who want to take a pause from the draining and repetitive demands of life and business to clarify their goals, create new collaborations with like-minded entrepreneurs, and of course, mastermind their businesses while sipping exotic drinks by the pool or in the middle of the ocean on a chartered catamaran.

This will be our 10th year hosting Indie Cruise, and it will also be our last.

Welcome to Aruba!

In 2020, we are headed for beautiful Aruba: Dutch Caribbean. As we have done in years past, we will gather in a laid back setting where they can let your hair down and take serious deep dives (sometimes, quite literally!) into the deeper impact you want their businesses to have in your own life as well as in the lives of your clients and customers.

By the way, despite its name the Indie Cruise does not take place aboard an actual cruise ship. If you want to know why, you can read about that here.) Instead, we will gather at the lovely Hotel Riu Palace Aruba Palm Beach, Dutch Caribbean. Here is a video from a prior Indie Cruise retreat so you can get an idea of what we have in store for you. Indie Cruise 2020 Theme: 20 Years Maker Journeys

Our last and final voyage is designed to celebrate you and the unparalleled contributions you and your business are making to the American economy.

The Indie Business Network began serving Makers and Handmade Entrepreneurs on January 16, 2000. The intervening two decades have seen a re-emergence of people who make and sell things with their hands as an economic force. Not only are you making wonderful products, you are plying your trade on your own terms and creating entirely new lives based on selling products you make with your own hands.

The IBN was founded on the principle that no woman would ever have to rely on a third party (human or otherwise) to provide for herself and her children. That vision has come to pass.

You are not relying on big box stores to get your products into the hands of consumers, and consumers are not really looking for you there. Instead, you are meeting them where they are: on their favorite social media pages, by text, and through virtual and physical popup sales events and retail stores where people can make purchases while engaging personally with you and your story.

Makers like you are destroying the stereotypes of inconsequential, small town and home-based mom and pop shops, replacing them with businesses that are using employees and contractors to positively impact your local economy and economies around the nation.

By your very life, you are redefining the market for consumer products across all areas, and demonstrating to the world that entrepreneurship truly is for everyone.

Whether you call yourself a Maker, a Handmade Entrepreneur, an Artisan or something else, you are turning the world of consumer commerce on its head.

You are single-handedly reversing a hundred years of standardized manufacturing practices. By turning away from mass production methods and assembly lines, you are feeding the demands of a market place that is increasingly hungry for customized and niche products that meet both pragmatic and emotional needs.

We are going to celebrate all of that in Aruba in 2020. Here's some of what we have planned for you.
