I have been thinking a lot lately about adventure in my life. Not that my life is boring or anything — far from it. I am always involved in some activity that I enjoy and that has meaningful purpose. Whether it's business or family, there's always something stimulating going on. I don't have to be hanging from a rock like this lady in order to have an adventure. But …
The dictionary defines “adventure” as, “An unusual and exciting, typically hazardous, experience or activity.” Business is all of those things — LOL! But when I think of adventure, I think of travel, and while I did a lot of that back in my corporate job days, and I've done a bit with my family and some on #IndieCruise (and will again in a few months), I haven't adventured on my own in many years. The main reason is because my children are so young and my life has not been conducive to periods of long travel while they are at home. But they are older now, 9 and 11, and I think that's part of the reason this image speaks to me today about travel as adventure.
“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.”
– Helen Keller
I'll be thinking about this as we begin the new year. What about you?
Question: How do you define adventure? Something tantalizing and dangerous? Something travel related like me? Or something else? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
