Earlier this year, Amazon announced plans to launch a handmade market place. That should come as no huge surprise I guess since Amazon's mission is to sell everything to everybody. Watch this video to learn more.
What is really interesting about this is that Amazon is already selling in its main store tons of the exact same products that will now be sold in the new Handmade at Amazon store, yet the company feels that handmade is so important to the buying public that an entirely separate store was needed. At present, I do not see handmade candles or bath and body products in the Amazon Handmade shop, but I'm sure it's on its way because it's on the seller application.
So now, in addition to being able to buy handmade in your local area (support your local Makers!), on Etsy and at places like Martha Stewart's American Made Market on Ebay, you can also buy handmade on Amazon.
And you know what? This trend is not going to slow down. There will be more of this.
Handmade is the New American Manufacturing
Handmade is the new American manufacturing, so get ready. Our lives are already changing for the better, and if Amazon knows handmade like I know handmade, and if they do this right, amazing things are going to happen.
