This is an interview with IBN member Funlayo Alabi, co-owner of Shea Radiance. Funlayo and her family are originally from Nigeria, West Africa, and she co-owns the business with her husband. They started it to fill what they perceived to be a lack of available quality unrefined fair trade shea butter. Today, they buy direct from women's co-ops in West Africa, ensuring that the maximum financial benefits go directly to the women who process the shea butter by hand.
On the video, you'll see Funlayo demonstrate one of her retail products, a Chocolate Truffle Whipped Shea Butter cream made with nutritious oils, cocoa absolute, and vanilla absolute. Just watching the video brings back the delicious natural aroma I enjoyed when I was with her! The cream is available in 2-ounce, 4-ounce, or 8-ounce sizes at this link.
You can find out more about ordering shea butter in bulk quantities of from 5 to 100 pounds at their wholesale site. Larger quantieis are avialble for special order.) And don't forget to check them out on Twitter and FaceBook. Shea Radiance is a longtime sponsor of IBN and my work to serve small and independent business owners.
Question: Have you ever tried raw, unrefined shea butter? How about cocoa and vanilla absolute? I love all three! What about you?
