Our members, Funlayo Alabi and her husband, natives of Nigeria, are heading back to their homeland in a few months to speak at the Global Shea Alliance conference in west Africa. Among other things, they'll be teaching a series of classes on how to make all types of soaps and cosmetics using shea butter. They've created an Indiegogo campaign to help raise funds for the trip. Here's the video with the details.
The purpose of the Global Shea Alliance conference is to enhance a sustainable and competitive shea industry that is environmentally and socially responsible. They focus on five areas: (1) shea nut quality improvment; (2) rural women's empowerment; (3) labor rights enforcement; (4) rural comm development; and (5) shea tree and Savannah conservation.
