If you have read this blog for a while, you know that I don't spend a lot of time tooting my horn, or even IBN's horn. I much prefer to toot IBN members' horns, and I do that very well. But no matter how much or how little tooting I do, the truth is that IBN is making a difference in the lives of Makers and Handmade Entrepreneurs nationwide, and I am proud of that track record.
I am especially pleased when a new member with a new business, without being asked, takes the time to share how IBN is helping her to change her life. It happens quite a bit, and each time it does, I am honored and humbled. This my life's work, and I am pleased at the difference it makes in the world.
When people are just starting a business, they are very vulnerable. Not only do they not know what they don't know, they are also often being discouraged by friends, family members and co-workers who don't understand their dreams and their commitment to them.
During these times especially, and as they grow, they need to ditch the way they have been thinking. They even need to avoid interacting with some of the people that have not embraced an entrepreneurial mindset. That's hard. And that's the value of having a network like IBN. It's a living, breathing community where everyone can go to be encouraged and nourished, and to get their next breakthrough idea or the perfect solution to a business challenge that's been gnawing at them for months.
