According to a press release at the website of Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), he and Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) yesterday introduced the The Safe Cosmetics and Personal Care Act of 2013 (PDF). If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know that this is not the first piece of cosmetics legislation that has been introduced or circulated in draft over the past few years. (In fact, you could go all the way back to 2008!) The new bill does not appear to be publicly available at the time I am publishing this post this morning, and when it is, I will post it here.
Meanwhile, if you'd like to read a short summary of what the new bill contains, check out this discussion at Indie Social. You could also read my post about HR4262: Cosmetics Safety Enhancement Act of 2012 which includes a PDF link to the entirely of that piece of now dead legislation. While HR4262 did not become law, it is possible that the new bill (and any law that eventually passes) will contain provisions that are somewhat similar to it.
