My 9-year old daughter and I made Christmas cookies this afternoon, using Rose Levy Beranbaum's recipe for Traditional Rolled Christmas Sugar Cookies from her book, Rose's Christmas Cookies. If you're into baking, you'll love Rose's blog. Our cookies are not nearly as nice as hers but I think I have detected a gift for baking in my daughter.
I shot this quick video to showcase the fun we had. My daughter really got into this. I'm pretty sure this means we'll be doing a lot more baking together over the years, with her being the one who adds all of the extra special touches.
By the way, when I asked my son to join the baking festivities, he said he wanted to play X-Box instead. When I reminded him that he begged me all day yesterday to bake cookies, he said, “It's OK, mom. I can eat them later.”
I guess that does it for his chances of being the next Food Network star!
What are you baking this week?
