Until two days ago, my office was located in a corner of the master bedroom of the home we rented when we moved to North Carolina last September. Before that, I was used to a spacious home office between the family room and the powder room. I was totally spoiled.
Since we moved into our new digs a few days ago, I am happy to say that I am once again spoiled, with a real home office that I can call my own and don't have to share.
On Monday's Indie Business Radio Show, I'll be talking with Kelly Spewock, the Interior Design/Residential Planning Department Director at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I'll ask her whether or not "the bedroom as the new home office" is really new, and how an Indie can locate a home office in the bedroom without destroying the peace and tranquility that normally exists there. I mean, what if the business phone rings at 2:00am because a customer thinks they can just call and leave you a message to pick up the next day?
Where is your home office? Is it in a separate space all its own or is your laptop on your night stand? If you share your sleeping space with someone else, how do you explain the compulsion to check your email when your partner may have something altogether different in mind? (Know what I mean …)
