We are always so thrilled to see our members grow their lives in ways that allow them to accommodate their business goals. A super example of building business around life is our member, Lori Nova Endres, founder of The Nova Studio outside San Francisco. Lori launched The Nova Studio in 2003 as a way to allow her to fulfill a creative outlet and help others do the same.
After leading the business on her own for many years, and tightly controlling its growth, began to slowly hire people to help her run things. Lori got married a few years ago and her first child was born last year. As Lori's personal life expanded, so did the business.
In some ways, this meant Lori had to choose between growing her business and spending less time with her family, or growing her family and spending less time with her business. In true Indie fashion, Lori refused to let her business break her life.
Instead, she chose to do something unique and unexpected. She created a new path that will allow the business to thrive without sacrificing her personal life. Lori brought on two partners and formed an LLC, so the business could grow to its full potential while Lori keeps a measure of sanity. Her new partners are Cassie Durant, who had been The Nova Studio manager, and Ruth Esteves, one of the soapmaking teachers at The Nova Studio.
It's an exciting time for them, and we are thrilled to see their progress, and appreciate the good example they are setting for small business growth possibilities. Here is some of what Lori and her new partners have to say about this exciting new way forward:
LORI NOVA ENDRES
“After running my business as a sole proprietor for the past 10 years, I am thrilled to have found not one but two people with whom I work well with and also respect and admire greatly. Running a business is challenging whether you're doing it by yourself or with others. I look forward to the future of The Nova Studio, with Ruth & Cassie.”
CASSIE DURANT
“I feel so privileged to have been a part of The Nova Studio for the last 2 years and be moving into this new and exciting step with my wonderful partners. I can think of no two better people to learn and grow with – I know they will challenge me and encourage me to improve with the Studio day by day.”
RUTH ESTEVES
“While none of us are fortune-tellers, when I started making soap as a hobby, I never imagined that one day I would be a co-owner of The Nova Studio. But I've learned that being open to possibilities can lead to amazing places! I am thrilled and honored to have the chance to work together with Lori and Cassie, and help grow The Nova Studio in new directions.”
