I have been invited to join a panel of judges that will help select a new owner for the Gratitude Soapery in Kansas City. I am so honored to be invited, and to be in some pretty high-falutin' company too. The other judges are the very wonderful David Fisher of About.com, and also two of our members: Lela Barker of Lucky Break Consulting and Anne-Marie Faiola of Bramble Berry. Kendra Cote, whom you know as our member from Modern Soapmaking (which was included in the August 2014 My Maker Box), is gifting her business baby to a deserving entrepreneur.
That's right! Rather than sell her business or just let it die, Kendra is excited about being able to gift it to someone who can, “give it the light and direction it needs.” What a perfect evolution, don't you think?
The requirements are as follows:
– Do you have soapmaking experience or are you interested in learning?
– Do you have a passion for making a difference in the world?
– Do you have an entrepreneurial spirit?
– Do you have at least 20 hours a week to dedicate to operating the business?
Do You Have What It Takes?
Entrepreneurship is not to be entered into lightly, so the fact that you like to make soap (or even that you make awesome soap) it not going to be enough to manage a profitable business. Not that I want to burst any bubbles or anything, but hey — you might as well know in advance, right?
So, do you think you have what it takes? Could this be your big chance to own and manage your own business without having to start it from scratch yourself? After 15 years building a business out of nothing except my big head of ideas, I think you should seriously think about this if entrepreneurship is on your list of things to pursue, and if you have an interest in soapmaking.
You can get more details about the business, and download the entry form at Kendra's site here.
The call for submissions closes on September 15, 2014, so don’t miss out!
Good luck and #givegratitude!

Best and Success!
