This week, FaceBook began rolling out extensive updates to its website. As explained at the FaceBook blog, the new personal profile page layout is a “timeline,” with a home for all your great stories. There are also apps that FaceBook says will “allow you to express who you are through all the things you do.” And that's just the tip of the iceberg of what we see on the front on the front end.
On the back end, Mark Zuckerberg and his team is updating the business plan to improve the service so we'll use it more, so they can sell more ads and make more money. Love it or hate it, that's the bottom line. The interface we see on the front end is a reflection of meticulous business planning that is constantly going on behind the scenes.
And isn't that what business is about? Setting goals, making plans to achieve them, executing the plans, and tweaking as you go to maximize the chances that you'll achieve the goals. Soooo ….
When was the last time you updated your business plan?
Do you have a business plan?
Do you review your plan regularly to replace old marketing strategies with new ones?
Do you regularly ditch products that aren't selling well?
What are you doing to increase your newsletter subscriptions so more people will be exposed to your products?
Are you systematizing your social media outreach so you can spend more time “on” your business than “in” it?
Just some things to think about this weekend.
If you are so inclined, you can keep up with the latest FaceBook updates at the FaceBook Blog.
Use an egg timer if you must. But don't spend more time figuring out FaceBook's plan, than you do figuring out your own.
Question: How much time have you spent this week on your business plan, compared to how much time you've spent figuring out FaceBook's? Just sayin'.
