Motherhood is a noble thing. It requires me to put other people before myself. And I have to do it a lot, and for a long time. Sometimes, I don't mind. Other times, I mind very much. But that doesn't change the nobility of motherhood. It just means I am not very noble. And while I don't feel like my mothering skills deserve any special recognition, I sure am glad that the people I mother honored me today.
In fact, this morning, my daughter said, “Happy Mother's Day, and thanks for making money on your computer.” (And that's a quote! For real!) I'm not sure how I feel about that, but I suppose it is a statement on where we are in the world today. After all, moms are running successful small businesses in large numbers these days. I love it!
Whether your're a mother in a traditional sense, or you're a mother in another way, I wish you a Happy Mother's Day and hope you enjoy lots of hugs and kisses — maybe like these sweet presents I got yesterday. I'm still high from that moment.
