Recently, I shared that The Storytellers is the theme for Indie Cruise Retreat 2018 to Ixtapa, Mexico. Today, I'm excited to begin a series of posts to introduce you to the five marvelous Storytellers we have selected to share with you on our upcoming retreat for Makers and Creatives like you.
Join me in welcoming Sandy Engels of The Purple Sage outside New Orleans, Louisiana, as we prepare to gather at the beautiful Club Med Luxury Resort & Spa in Ixtapa, Pacific: Mexico on January 13 – 18, 2018.
Sandy's topic is How to Enter Your Market with Courage and Confidence.
As you may recall, our theme for Indie Cruise 2018 is The Storytellers (more about that here), and Sandy definitely has an entrepreneurial story to tell — and it's not one without great challenge and a bit of secret entrepreneurial heartache.
A Bit About Sandy
Sandy's entrepreneurial journey has been more like a jungle gym than a vertical ladder. (Isn't everyone's?!!)
Her business adventures began in 2011 when she purchased The Purple Sage from a former member of the Indie Business Network. (Hi Bobbi!) Since then, she has crafted thousands of bath and body products, from handmade soap to bath salts and bubble bath, which she has sold online and at hundreds of shows throughout the southeast, particularly in her home state of Louisiana.
While her business expeditions have always been fun, they have not always been profitable and personally fulfilling. Sandy has had to stop and start, and stop and start over again many times during the past 6 years. Through it all, she has been courageous and open-minded, and she has never stopped learning. She has taken numerous entrepreneurial training classes, worked with coaches, attended small business events and conferences, devoured books, read blog posts, etc. There really isn't one thing Sandy has not done to keep pushing herself forward.

Sandy Wants to Share it All With You!
Sandy will focus specifically on the Emerge Phase of my signature approach to entrepreneurship, called The Indie Method. The Emerge Phase consists of 9 specific and sequential steps to take your brand from the wrapping of the cocoon to the freedom of the open air, just as a chrysalis emerges from its warm, silky envelope to face the world as a beautiful butterfly.
Sandy tells me that she is super excited to share her journey through the Emerge Phase. It is fresh in her mind, as she just recently re-launched her brand with new and updated graphics and a newly coordinated assortment of bath and body products in five collections: Balance, Courage, Harmony, Stress Relieve and Wisdom.

Storytelling is the most powerful method of sharing. When people ask me how I came this far in my business (and I still have far to go!), I find that they learn best when I simply share my story.
Having started my business years ago, I knew in advance that it was going to take time to get it to the next level. What I didn't know was how much time it would take … and how much energy and stamina. Sharing my story with other entrepreneurs is the best way to prepare them for their journey.
Using Donna Maria's Indie Method approach, I have finally been able to bring The Purple Sage through the Emerge Phase. Once I went back to the foundation in the Emerge Phase, things began to make a lot more sense because they were laid out for me in a sequential order.
My hope is that through the knowledge I have gained from working with Donna Maria, I will uplift and encourage others who may feel a bit scattered with all of the things on their entrepreneurial “to do” list. It takes courage to step out and grow your business, and in the process you gain confidence. Having a sequence of steps to follow has made all the difference, and I cannot wait to share how far I've come with others!
