Motivation. It's not everything, but when it comes to entrepreneurship, a little of it goes a super long way. The importance to entrepreneurs of a steady diet of positive motivation cannot be understated. That's one of the many reasons why I enjoy bringing you the stories of our members several times a month.
Even a high level look at what some of this nation's Makers and Handmade Entrepreneurs are doing will motivate you to new levels of success. Last week, we brought you makers who are moving and shaking in New York, Vermont, and California. If you missed them, you can catch them here. This week, we bring you highlights and star power from Virginia, Texas, and Michigan. See anyone you know?
A Lavender Tasting in Virginia
If you've been reading this blog for a while, you know how much I enjoy being with people who really love lavender. (If you don't know, you can see a bit of evidence here and here.) Lavender is not my favorite aroma, nor is it my favorite herb, but people who love lavender *really* love lavender, and I like to watch them enjoy their passion.
Take our member, Julie Haushalter of White Oak Lavender Farm in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Earlier this month, she hosted a lavender tasting. Patrick Evans-Hylton, the chef for the evening, specializes in oysters, so guess what was featured at the tasting? These!!
Lavender oysters! Now, I have seen it all! In addition to lavender oysters, guests were able to sample many other lavender culinary treats, live jazz music and wine by the glass — including Butterfly Kisses, the farm's Rose type made from syrah grapes and a light lavender infusion.

A Trip to a Las Vegas Trade Show in Texas
Not even approaching Hurricane Harvey can stop our member, Maggie Hanus at A Wild Soap Bar from getting her products to next week's Central Garden Dealer Show at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas. In case you're not familiar, the Central Garden Dealer Show is one of the nation’s largest wholesale suppliers of lawn and garden supplies. Learn more about Central Garden here.
