About Blue Ocean Strategy
According to the authors, your business can operate in a blue ocean or a red ocean.
If you are in a red ocean, you are struggling to keep up with the existing competition in an established market. You do what is expected of companies that are competing in that market. You are constantly fighting for market share. Your life is a never ending effort to keep up with everyone else, and to somehow do it better, faster, less expensively, and more profitably than them.
If you are in a red ocean, you are participating as opposed to competing. You put your resources into becoming a market unto yourself, and less resources into competing in the smae market everyone else is competing in. Instead of trying to nibble a piece of a big pie, you bake your own pie and you get to eat the whole thing.
Here's a video to illustrate the point.
Which ocean do you prefer?
