I like money, not for money's sake, but for what it offers me and my family — when it's used wisely. As I reflect on nearly 11 years as IBN's leader, I am discovering that money for money's sake means even less than it used to.
I created this graphic using Wordle.
A healthy business makes money, sure, but it's not really about money. It's about helping people, creating opportunities, and having fun doing it. It's about providing value. As I provide value, value comes back to me. Sometimes in the form of money; other times in the form of a sense of fulfillment and peace about my life.
Opportunity is also at the core of what I see the most successful IBN members do. The people who risk the most create the most opportunities, not just for themselves but also for their customers, their community, and the world. A “how to” video makes it easier for people who see it to accomplish a specific goal. A thoughtful blog post shares a unique perspective on a topic of interest. An exciting product launch creates new opportunities for buyers to enjoy taking care of themselves in a whole new way.
I believe that the money a business makes is directly proportionate to the opportunities it creates — for the business owner and for others. This way of thinking and being is so liberating! As we focus on creating opportunities, we are free to do just that, and not have to fret and worry about money. What a liberating way of thinking — and living life!!
