I am pleased to announce the October 2020 Indie Business Book Club pick: Supermaker by Jaime Schmidt. This book was selected for obvious reasons — it's designed to inspire Makers like you and like all of my Indie Business Network members. Another reason I selected this book is because it is authored by former IBN member, Jaime Schmidt, founder of Schmidt's which was acquired in 2017 by Unilever.

Jaime knows how its done
Jaime launched her business in her Portland, Oregon, kitchen where she made a variety of bath and body products. Eventually, she streamlined her operations to sell only her best selling product: deodorant. In December 2017, her company was acquired by Unilever. Today, not only can you buy Schmidt's deodorant, but you can also purchase a variety of other products including laundry detergent, tooth paste, cleaning vinegar and soap.
Making is just the beginning
Supermaker is a book filled with stories. It's neatly divided into four easy to follow and sequential parts. In Part 1, you make it yours by diving in feet first and making things happen without worrying too much about exactly how you are going to get anywhere in particular. This section is about aiming at a specific goal without fretting a lot about how you're going to get there.
Part II is about what happens after you get a foothold. Do you grow? How do you grow? What are you growing to and for? Who do you need to help you grow? How do you define and protect what you are growing? This part is really about what happens after you are somewhat established.
Part III drives you to pull out all the stops and truly show up for your brand. It's about making a statement and crashing through barriers. It's about leverage and growth and expansion and momentum.
Part IV is about making your work have a lasting impact. There are lots of different paths to doing that, and it will be fun to define what that means for everyone as we read and learn together.
The reading plan is posted inside our private members only Facebook Group. If you are not participating in the group, you can join us by follow the instructions here.
Supermaker combines inspiration and instruction for anyone interesting in building a business — especially if you are starting out at a place as humble as your own kitchen table. Through the stories told by the author, we'll discover advice on branding, sales, marketing, social media, product development and so much more.
