Last year, I told you about what happened when a blogger chronicled her experiences making every single recipe in one of Julia Childs's cookbooks. The blogger eventually found fame as the subject of a movie starring Meryl Streep. I am amazed at how much blogging has enhanced my life. I suppose it's no wonder then that I am so fascinated with other women whose personal and professional lives have been changed by the simple act of blogging.
Perhaps that's why I waited five hours on Friday to meet Ree Drummond, editor of The Pioneer Woman blog and author of The Pioneer Woman, author of The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes From An Accidental Country Girl. I've enjoyed Ree's blog for many years, so when I heard she was in Charlotte to speak and sign her book at Joseph-Beth Booksellers, I decided to head down and meet her.
I arrived at the bookstore at 5:00, and my group was called to meet with Ree at around 9:45. It was a long wait, made easier because I enjoyed a surprise meet-up with my Twitter friends, Lisa Hoffmann and Scott Hepburn. (A picture of me and Lisa.) Ree told us that she put the finishing touches on a new book while in her hotel here in Charlotte. It's called “Black Heels To Tractor Wheels,” and I hear it's been optioned for a movie. I also hear that Reese Witherspoon is interested in playing the part of Ree in the movie. I had actually pictured Sandra Bullock, but what do I know?
It was nice to meet you, Ree, and I wish you much continued success! Thanks for showing us what happens when women write!
Question: It's amazing what happens when women write, isn't it?
