I am pleased to announce our October 2013 Indie Business Book Club pick: The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battless, by Steven Pressfield. For the past few years, I have hosted Indie Business Book Club, a fun and convenient way for Indie Business Network members to learn and grow together in business and in life.

Last month, we read Tribes, by Seth Godin and uncovered how important is it for us as creative entrepreneurs to develop leadership skills that create the kind of credibility and audience we need to solidify our businesses and make them successful.
About The War of Art
According to Steven Pressfield, all people encounter a specific type of resistance in their lives when they are seeking to better themselves and their situations. In particular, he defines resistance as:
… the negative force that arises whenever we are trying to move from a lower level to a higher level.
As a creative entrepreneur, I am sure that sounds familiar. I along with all of the members of the Indie Business Network encounter this type of resistance regularly. What we aim to do through this month's book club is to address the resistance head on, and create some new strategies to overcome it.
Watch this short video of Steven describing this resistance to Oprah Winfrey.
Powerful, yes?
In the video, Steven lists cites many areas of life where resistance surfaces. Of course our main focus will be on overcoming resistance when it comes to launching and sustaining of an entrepreneurial venture, but we will be able to apply what we learn together to all areas of our lives.
